"The use of visualization makes learning much easier. Great poetry can "paint" wonderful mental images, but those mental images vary with each reader. The use of a vivid image in teaching abstract mathematical concepts, however, can help simplify and clarify the concept. The rote memorization of addition and subtraction facts, times tables and formulae helps students in the process of solving problems, but does little to help students understand the concept behind the process.
